SIGN POSTING ON METRO DISTRICT PROPERTY

Please remember that sign posting, either by planting in the ground on District property or posting on District fences, is strictly prohibited without prior written consent of the Board of Directors.  It should be noted that the District spent thousands of taxpayer dollars in the spring of 2007 repairing the sprinkler system along the Smoky Hill Road corridor.  A lot of this damage was caused by signage that was hammered into the ground.  Furthermore, signs with wire bases, if not removed, can separate from the wires which can get tangled in and damage our mowing equipment.  Parts of signs can become lethal projectiles if they are not seen by our mowing crew and are run over.  If a sign is determined to have damaged any part of the District's sprinkler system or mowing equipment, or can be determined to have caused injury, the persons responsible for posting such signage can be held legally liable.  The District Board of Directors and the maintenance crew ask that you consider the well-being of all those who may possibly be affected and refrain from posting signs on District Property.  Thank you!

Board Member Elections

The Smoky Hill Metropolitan District Board consists of 5 members.  Elections are held, as needed, in May of each election year.  Positions come open every two years, but the elected terms are for four years.  In 2008 two positions were open and in 2010 three positions will be open.  This alternates every two years with this two/three method and helps to ensure an experienced board.  Ideally, board members are elected by the registered electors whom reside in the district.  If, after the initial four-year term, a board member is re-elected or wins a seat by default, he/she may serve an additional four years.  If a vacancy is filled by appointment, the appointee serves a 2-year term.  A board member is term-limited after 2 consecutive four-year terms and cannot run again for another four years beyond the ending of his/her second term.  Officers are elected by the members of the board at the June meeting.  A stipend of $100 is paid to each board member for every meeting attended with the understanding that additional "volunteer" time may be required outside of the meeting if the board member's area of responsibility warrants it.  If an election is triggered (more candidates exist than open positions) qualified candidates are required to follow all campaign laws of the City of Centennial, the County of Arapahoe, and the State of Colorado and must be an elector, and a resident or property owner in the District (Smoky Hill 400).  In the event no qualified candidates have submitted a "self-nomination" form by the February 28th deadline, or the number of qualified candidates doesn't exceed the number of open positions, no election will be held and the open positions will be filled by appointment by the remaining board members.  Thank you for your interest in this excellent opportunity to serve your community!!
